Easterly runoff channel had some overflow, westerly channel still below overflow level and looked dry. Same observations at 1047 but it was hard to confirm runoff in the steamy a.m. light.
8316 27 May 2018 @ 2030 --- MAB Still very quiet. Now below runoff on easterly channel as well as westerly with only a few tiny bubbles from the center vent area. Morning observations were similar but too steamy to see the runoff area. (Time is approximate, after Steamboat!)

5649 21 Aug 1975 @ 1530 21 Aug 1975 @ 1630 research-mab 08/21/1975 What’s Going On? Monarch is spouting steam bubbles from its quiet side as much as it does from its active side. Cistern appears to be more violent, and Emerald has gone crazy. (Observed in Walk 6, 3:30 to 4:30)
5628 21 Aug 1975 @ 0810 --- research-mab 08/21/1975 Drastic change in Emerald Spring and area around the pool! There is now a large boiling spot located near the front edge of the pool, just about at the middle section. It is boiling violently, to heights of 1-2 feet, & occasionally is actually “erupting” or being tossed up a few inches. The boiling area itself is quite large, perhaps 1 to 2 meters in diameter. Up to this time, the pool has been very quiet, with the bubbles rising gently to the surface & located at the front edge of the pool, but down at the extreme left end. The pool, which had gradually been regaining its emerald green color, is now very turbid – a muddy brown color. In the surrounding area, the little constant spouter located to the right of the pool has stopped all activity & is totally drained. It has continually spouted to heights of 2-3 feet all summer. Two smaller pools at the back edge of the spring have also completely drained. The boiling spouter on the hillside at the back edge of the pool (surrounded by white rock) has also stopped all action & is completely empty! All changes noted at 810 this am.

5830 20 Sep 1974 @ 1800 --- research-mab 09/20/1974 Emerald’s Springs – Going strong. The muddy spring appears to be down some more and the cold gas bubbler at the entrance SW of the group is dry. Several of the smaller spring are bringing up arsenic sulphides.
5828 19 Sep 1974 @ 1800 --- research-mab 09/19/1974 Emerald Spring – Same as yesterday, except the mud feature has dropped another 2” and is not as active.
