Comments:From pg. 30: "Two eruptions of Giantess occurred in August. The first of these was on the 6th and was of the steam phase type...The eruption of the 6th was very unusual. It started at 8:07am and very quickly entered the steam phase. The height of the major portion of the water phase was reported to be quite low compared to eruptions in recent years. By the end of the day the eruption had nearly finished. The steam phase was just about played out and by morning the ejection of steam had stopped completely. The unusual aspects of the eruption created some suspicion as to its origin. However, examination of the surrounding deposits revealed no evidence of soaping. A number of springs on the hillside nearby were affected slightly by the eruption. The most notable of these were Beehive, Dome, Model, Vault, Infant, Pump, and Plume." In his September report, he did find evidence the eruption was soaped (pg. 10): "Just before I left the Park I ran across an employee of the Old Faithful Lodge who with another employee thew a single bar of soap into the main crater about 75 minutes before Giantess began erupting."
