Comments: | Via a photo series posted on Facebook. Mr. Mike Rike posted the photo to ask park visitors the name of the feature. His first image has a timestamp of 1558, July 7, 2008. The image shows an explosive burst of muddied water to approximately 7 to 10 meters. A wave of water (~10cm high) emanating near the eruption base appears to show the initial displacement of the pool from the blast. He said the eruption "happened so fast I was lucky enough to get my camera up and shooting". Duration may thus be presumed to be less than a minute. Two photographs after the eruption show the pool 10-20cm below overflow. It seems likely that a visitor report in the Old Faithful Visitor Center Logbook providing the approximate time of 5:30PM, was actually this 1558 eruption. |
