Comments: | Main Vent splashing started 51 minutes before the eruption. There was a Gold pause lasting 24 minutes followed by a River pause lasting 11 minutes. Bottom Vent erupted once (d=2m30s). The eruption was initiated by Upper Mortar surging 23 minutes after River came on. Upper Mortar had a surge reaching about 10 feet above the cone with copious discharge (notes from Mary Carson say 20 feet, video shows more like 10-15 feet), then receded back into the cone as water surged up in East Vent and Main Vent. Main Vent was strong enough cause a small river of runoff to flow into Backwater Spring from the far side. Norris Pool rose several inches and boiled during the eruption. |
