27847 29 Aug 2023 @ 1031 29 Aug 2023 @ 1038 Delta4Heavy85 (Wc) Having boils every minute or so, the best observed was at 16:33:31, reaching maybe 6" high and nice and wide.
26281 13 Jun 2023 @ 0922 --- Polly Looked like a strong boil - much more steam than usual (seen from the lower store area)
25318 04 May 2023 @ 1123 04 May 2023 @ 1125 JarnoO (wc) Large, sustained boiling at N rim. One of these episodes had a sustained boil easily double the height (±3ft perhaps?) of normal.
25310 01 May 2023 @ 1755 --- K.Cooper (wc) Period of decent boiling around this time, windy. Not tall, but wide and sustained. N Rim as well as Center and E side of the pool
25292 30 Apr 2023 @ 1416 --- SantaFe108 N rim boil, 6" tall.
25276 30 Apr 2023 @ 0930 --- RMichaels Based on amount of water collected around platform, it appears that Giantess recently had significant boiling events and runoff on the north side.
25272 29 Apr 2023 @ 2027 --- minissa From wc, pool still looks high plus you can track strong runoff to right {from wc perspective} and down hill from steam it is putting up. {I realize everything looks steamier when the day wanes, but still...}
25271 29 Apr 2023 @ 2006 --- K.Cooper (wc) High pool with lots of hot runoff visible from the cam. Strong boiling but mostly obscured by the steam.
25263 28 Apr 2023 @ 1410 28 Apr 2023 @ 1510 K.Cooper (wc) Another period of large N Rim boiling began at 1410. Every few minutes there is a large (1-2ft maybe?) boil sustained for about 5 sec. Still continuing as of 1456. Hard to tell wind speed.Calming down around 1510, although ongoing nice boils.
25261 28 Apr 2023 @ 1312 --- DanS Increased active boiling along entire North East rim with a few small splashes. Done by 1315. Followed up with a couple smaller boils.
25208 22 Apr 2023 @ 1143 --- DanS Edge boils along NW rim
24612 30 Oct 2022 @ 1210 --- SantaFe108 Large N-Rim boil, couldn't see through the steam cloud. Platform infront of N-Rim is wet and eastern runoff channel is wet too.
24334 10 Oct 2022 @ 1749 --- K.Cooper (wc) The most steam I have ever seen for 60F and low humidity. A couple of nice (2ft) N rim boils. Seems hot.
24196 03 Oct 2022 @ 1220 --- DanS Moderately strong boil
23988 21 Sep 2022 @ 1805 --- underarockphoto Observed from the webcam. No visible boiling (cam is zoomed out and there is too much steam to see when zoomed in) but pronounced steam rising from runoff channels both north and south. Dry conditions and relatively warm temps out - not really conducive for runoff steam.
23537 02 Sep 2022 @ 0946 --- Kat Low boils observed
25195 25 Aug 2022 @ 1728 --- Craigmon99 Much calmer than my previous visits the last 9 days. Wind could have a factor(?) NE rim boils very noisy but harder to see. North rim pitiful at best.
23387 24 Aug 2022 @ 1546 --- Kat Nice boil started at 1544
23353 22 Aug 2022 @ 1655 22 Aug 2022 @ 1704 K.Cooper (wc) Pool a tad higher than it has been recently, wind calm to moderate. No boils larger than a foot, but the boils we have observed have been pool wide and lasted more than 30sec a piece. All N-rim to center.
23335 21 Aug 2022 @ 1647 --- Craigmon99 5 foot boil for 10 seconds Largest boil I’ve ever seen personally
23303 20 Aug 2022 @ 1435 20 Aug 2022 @ 1454 Craigmon99 Still constantly boiling. One 3 foot burst at 1445
23270 19 Aug 2022 @ 1344 --- SantaFe108 Boiling to around ~6" on the north and northwestern rim every few minutes. Boiling never ceases entirely between each increase in energy.
23247 18 Aug 2022 @ 1252 --- Craigmon99 3 foot boil of note at 1252. Constant boiling from 1252 to 1330 when I left. Boiling continuous.
23238 17 Aug 2022 @ 1950 --- Craigmon99 3 foot center boil. Sustained for 20 seconds 4 foot boil North and north east rim 10 seconds at 2008
23195 15 Aug 2022 @ 1000 15 Aug 2022 @ 1030 aferrara Boiling constantly, variable intensity. 5 6" boils, one was sustained nearly a minute at the NE rim. 1 1' boil at 1021 that led to activity on full northern half of the pool. Most activity on NxNE rim, but shortlived and weak activity viewed across the pool.
23163 13 Aug 2022 @ 0615 13 Aug 2022 @ 1315 RMichaels Upon arrival, the runoff channel between Giantess and Teakettle Spring was wet down to the bottom of the hill (evidence of runoff overnight). Vault was at about mid-level, the same as it was 8/12/22. Most of the boiling events during the morning/afternoon were along the N and NW side of the pool (in contrast to the predominating N/NE and E boiling seen more frequently this season). Many wide boils seen throughout the morning. Most were about 6", but a handful were 1-2'. At 0919 a 2' N boil put heavy runoff out the N/NW side of the pool - enough to create a cascade of water down a jagged part of the sinter platform facing Teakettle spring. The best activity observed was in the half hour preceding Beehive's 1106 eruption. From 1027-1029 there was an extended period of N rim boiling that reached up to 2' and at times consumed large areas of the pool. At 1039 a wide NE boil that was 2-3 ft. put runoff out the N side of the pool. Generally impressive boils with moderate amounts of NW runoff continued until 1058, when I left after seeing Beehive's Indicator ie. Upon return at 1120, Vault had begun visibly dropping and the activity at Giantess had died down considerably. The one exception was at 1211, when a sudden NW boil 2' in height put a significant amount of runoff down the NW channel and again created a cascade along that side of the platform. No notable boiling events occurred from then until I departed at 1315.
23145 11 Aug 2022 @ 1550 11 Aug 2022 @ 1700 aferrara Constant boiling, mostly in north and northwest of pool. Averaging a ~6" boil every 1-5 minutes. Four boiling episodes over 1'. Poolwide boils fairly frequent, with a few energetic 6+" boils in center. Frequent gentle boil in Vault, only once sustained for more than 60s.
23120 09 Aug 2022 @ 1350 09 Aug 2022 @ 1520 RMichaels Vault's water level rose since yesterday and continued to rise slightly through this observation period. 1352 - 1 ft. NE boil with some runoff. 1402 wide N rim boil with multiple points of runoff. 1410 - estimated 2 ft. center pool/S rim boil. 1418 - impressive center pool/ S rim boil that I believe reached 3 ft. It did not maintain that height for long, but it broadened, lasted for 1m+, and was wide enough to cover the east half of the pool for probably 30s. 1422 and 1423 - low, wide N rim boils with runoff. 1425 and 1427 - wide N boils with notable runoff. Overall, activity quieted down after 1430 except for a NE boil at 1452 that put substantial runoff over the rim.
22930 29 Jul 2022 @ 0745 29 Jul 2022 @ 1100 RMichaels Consistent wide boiling along the north/northeast rim for most of the morning, typically at intervals of about 10 minutes. One boil at 0912 easily reached three feet tall, though it quickly died down and was isolated to the NE rim. The most active period was from 0930-1040, with at least three wide (though short in height) N/NE rim boils that put runoff over the edge of the pool between 0930 and 1000. At 1025 there was a NE rim boil up to about 15" that had some force behind it. At 1037 a NW rim boil put a moderate amount of runoff out that side of the pool. Except for the 1037 event, most boils seemed concentrated on the NE rim.
22927 29 Jul 2022 @ 1039 --- K.Cooper (wc) From around 1029 onward... Numerous wide, long-lasting, and some decently tall boils. Lots of white water visible from the camera, and only a minute (often less) between boils. Posting this note in hopes that someone in basin was watching it around this time, it would be nice to know how tall these boils actually are. Most boils appear to be along N-rim
22922 28 Jul 2022 @ 1419 --- K.Cooper (wc) The camera has spent a fair amount of time on Giantess today: Mostly small but very wide boils, a lot of them are only a minute or two apart. The biggest boil of the day was at 1418, similar to the largest ones in the past few days. A lot of the boils are along the East rim.
22887 27 Jul 2022 @ 2021 --- K.Cooper Center-south rim two-point boil (wc) Smaller in height than the ones yesterday, but wider. Again at 2022 but smaller and pretty much all South (and east?) Rim. It would be nice to have some in-basin confirmation of how large these boils actually are. The camera was only on Giantess from 2020 to 2023.
22848 26 Jul 2022 @ 1123 --- JarnoO (wc) Very heavy north rim boil. It seemed only a hair away of triggering an eruption. Regardless, Giantess is very active along the northern rim as of writing.
22549 13 Jul 2022 @ 2020 13 Jul 2022 @ 2050 RMichaels Giantess had 3 north rim boils that were 1-2 feet in height and sent water over the edge of the crater during this time. The runoff from the boils dampened half the width of the runoff channel near Teakettle Spring.
22405 08 Jul 2022 @ 1530 --- minissa Again, from Obs Pt with binoculars, in the past half hour when the wind died down, good convection was visible over the vent, and there was one more north face boil sustained for about 15 seconds with water pushed out forward and to the right. Just sayin'...
22403 08 Jul 2022 @ 1505 --- minissa From Observation Point with binoculars. Over the past half hour, there have been 3 short episodes of North face boiling with of put out the front, then to right and left. Pool had episodes of low but vigorous boiling, although the appearance of agitation was helped along by strong wind.
21689 03 Jun 2022 @ 1239 --- underarockphoto Continued big boils. Some are forceful enough to dome the water in blue-bubble like fashion. Mostly center pool.
21686 03 Jun 2022 @ 1147 --- K.Cooper Many large pool-wide boils this morning. Hard to estimate height from the wc, but I would guestimate a foot. Some boils are lasting 30 or so seconds.
21687 03 Jun 2022 @ 1056 03 Jun 2022 @ 1147 Betty nice center boiling on Giantess
21676 02 Jun 2022 @ 1906 --- K.Cooper Series of decent N-rim boils. Some of which were probably two feet. Center Pool had constant 2-3 inch "fizzling" for about 15min.
21317 16 May 2022 @ 1440 --- Brando Boiling on the entire rim closest to boardwalk
21163 04 May 2022 @ 1106 --- RMichaels ~1 foot north rim boil.
20775 01 Feb 2022 @ 1715 --- Brando Continuous rim boiling on the side closest to the cam
20681 13 Jan 2022 @ 0947 --- Graham Noisy boil. Another at 0955.
20665 11 Jan 2022 @ 1219 --- Graham Noisy boil.
19772 28 Sep 2021 @ 1854 --- K.Cooper (wc) Very impressive boils over the last little while. None of them were exceptionally tall (I estimate most of them were only 6'') but there were a lot of them. It also seemed like the center of the pool and the N-rim were constantly sizzling a few inches in height. The pool was higher during this time than I have seen it recently, it was pushing out an impressive amount of water down the main channel and was even flowing a good amount of water into the second channel. We also saw what we thought was runoff coming down the "backside" (closest to the bw). The wind picked up and seemed to kill it around 1900. Entering a note because this was the hottest I have seen 'tess in a long time.
19140 28 Aug 2021 @ 0945 28 Aug 2021 @ 2040 Ben VL Much increased activity from prev. days. High water level in Giantess' pool most of the day. Frequent boiling episodes, slowed down after the wind picked up but still put out semi frequent and relatively large activity despite the wind. Numerous 6"+ boils, several 1'+ boils, and a handful approaching 2'. Many with water pushing over the north or west rim. Near constant superheated boiling/bubbling across the pool. Boils are concentrated in the North/West quadrant, along the rim and towards the center of the pool, and are often doming, wide, or have multiple points. Vault steadily rising most of the day, peaked and started dropping later in the afternoon.
19125 27 Aug 2021 @ 1800 --- JarnoO (wc) Had some decent activity this morning, but overall it declined. Whether that was weather-induced I don't know, but the two days before had good boiling activity despite unfavorable winds. Perhaps Dome's playing a role in it, too, as its series started somewhere overnight.
19097 26 Aug 2021 @ 1800 --- JarnoO (wc) Good activity throughout the day. Multiple decent and sustained large boiling episodes seen, though the majority were bubble showers. Episodes happened during strong winds as well. North semicircle was focus of activity, nothing seen from southeast rim.
19069 26 Aug 2021 @ 1027 --- Brando (wc) Giantess is overflowing with center to pool wide boiling.
19073 26 Aug 2021 @ 1008 --- Ben VL N rim boil, over a foot in two places with a healthy amount of runoff over the N rim (compared to what I have seen). Definitely the strongest boil I've seen over the last couple days. No followup.
19058 25 Aug 2021 @ 1614 --- K.Cooper Lots of boils today
19040 24 Aug 2021 @ 1700 24 Aug 2021 @ 1901 K.Cooper Some good boils during this time. A few of them were over a foot tall, involved the entire north rim, and lasted about 10s. Overall just a lot of boiling during this time. Transitioned to alot center pool boils around 1822.
18975 21 Aug 2021 @ 1020 21 Aug 2021 @ 1100 Ben VL Vault up to more normal level after being low yesterday. Lot of bubbles in the back of the pool. GTS's pool higher than yesterday, at or just below the sharp edge. Near constant simmering noise with boilups. One 1'-1.5' boil at 1034 that put some runoff on the NE side of the pool near the channel. Wind started increasing around 1047 and the activity has slowed considerably.
18944 15 Aug 2021 @ 0935 --- Suzanne Overflowing with periodic very small boils (sizzling) at the edges of the pool.
18936 14 Aug 2021 @ 2016 --- Suzanne Water is clear and calm and overflowing slightly into the southeast channel.
18934 14 Aug 2021 @ 1733 --- K.Cooper Water beginning to become visible from the webcam.
18932 14 Aug 2021 @ 1415 --- RMichaels Water is visible in Giantess' crater.
18930 14 Aug 2021 @ 1346 --- Suzanne Calm. No visible water in the crater.
18914 13 Aug 2021 @ 1209 --- Suzanne Huffing and subterranean boiling heard at 1209, 1213, and 1214.. No visible water.
18913 13 Aug 2021 @ 1154 --- Brando As of 11:54, Giantess has barely any steam, no spiking or bursts, and the pool is completely empty.
18912 13 Aug 2021 @ 0025 --- Suzanne I saw spikes from the boardwalk at Beehive. A few bursts to maybe 50 feet, although height was difficult to determine in the dark. Activity lasted 3 to 4 minutes. I saw and heard nothing afterwards and left the hill at 0150.
18910 12 Aug 2021 @ 2042 12 Aug 2021 @ 2048 Brando 20:42: Near constant pool wide eruptions, and spiking up to 70 feet or higher. 20:44: Huge steam plume with spiking to almost 100 feet with water being flown all the way down to the bottom of Giantesses mound. 20:48: phase ended, pool empty and barely any steam.
18908 12 Aug 2021 @ 1755 --- Brando More big bursts going at 17:55, probably around 40-50 feet. Some spiking. Bursts are intermittent with an empty pool in between
18906 12 Aug 2021 @ 1355 --- rfick09 Large bursts starting up again at 13:55 as seen on webcam
18901 12 Aug 2021 @ 0602 --- Kat Water noted - spiking
18899 11 Aug 2021 @ 1740 --- Rocco Paperiello approx start of steam phase
18725 29 Jul 2021 @ 1217 --- SantaFe108 Heavy N rim boiling, more boiling at 1218, light boiling at 1222 and Vault bubbling.
18388 12 Jul 2021 @ 1050 12 Jul 2021 @ 1053 JarnoO (wc) Heavy north rim boils 1050, 1051 and late 1053. Undoubtedly also before and after, but I only typed in these times in my notepad. Turned to a flat pool after Beehive and the remainder of the day, for the brief times the cam was looking at the Hill rather than Sawmill & co.
18126 28 Jun 2021 @ 1334 --- TheHikingDude Brief 3 foot boil on north side
17998 22 Jun 2021 @ 0812 --- K.Cooper 2ft N-Rim boil
17742 13 Jun 2021 @ 0954 --- K.Cooper (wc) Decent N-Rim Boin on Giantess at this time, Sustained for 13 seconds. Again at 0955, 0956, and 0957.
17670 11 Jun 2021 @ 1034 11 Jun 2021 @ 1037 TheHikingDude Giantess was one inch below overflow at 10:34. 10:36: the whole north side was boiling to almost a foot.
17476 05 Jun 2021 @ 1210 05 Jun 2021 @ 1212 Polly Nice rim boil seen from Crested Pool. We could see water at times.
17373 02 Jun 2021 @ 1227 --- Graham 2 foot boil.
17366 02 Jun 2021 @ 0801 --- Graham Nice wide 2 feet plus boil.
17326 01 Jun 2021 @ 0845 --- Graham 1 to 2 foot boil on the rim. 0904, 0907 1 foot plus thick boil.
17292 30 May 2021 @ 2041 --- Ben VL Pool is low. Wind is calm. Somewhat steady simmering in the pool. I saw a few N rim boils in the 15 mins or so I was there. Max 1'ish. Slope behind teakettle wet down to 30' or so beyond the bottom of the slope.
17263 30 May 2021 @ 0922 --- Graham 2 foot boil close to Vault. 1 foot at 0925.
17112 17 May 2021 @ 1230 17 May 2021 @ 1235 RMichaels Pool has a constant sizzle. Saw one North rim boil to roughly 1 foot.
17100 15 May 2021 @ 1650 15 May 2021 @ 1815 Micah Kipple Saw and heard an explosive boil 3-6 feet high while at Aurum. Went over to the Giantess bench to investigate and have been observing since Aurum. North rim boils are frequent and wide, but not very high and not putting out a lot of overflow. Between concentrated boils the entire pool is in a simmering boil. Vault is only 2 inches below the rim and bubbling on the South en. Giabntess's Pool level is very high. The North Runoff channel is wet to the base of the Mound. Will continue observations until hunger takes hold or activity decreases.
16933 27 Apr 2021 @ 1322 --- DanS Intermittent moderate boiling alongEast rim
16906 21 Apr 2021 @ 1757 --- TheHikingDude Camera really zoomed into Giantess, could see some bubbling on the Southwest and North sides. No center boil.
16902 21 Apr 2021 @ 1158 21 Apr 2021 @ 1219 K.Cooper Multiple large boils, including N-rim, center pool, S-rim and full pool boils. Runoff has visibly increased over the last 24hrs (the area of orange bacteria has expanded)
16452 23 Oct 2020 @ 1824 23 Oct 2020 @ 1825 JarnoO (wc) Picture-perfect steam devil formed over Giantess, easily over 75-100 feet high (based on height measurements done in-basin during Giantess' eruption). Steam column started rotating @ 1824:34 and became very distinct from the rest of the steam 21 seconds later. Attained maximum height @ 1825:01, after which it rose upwards. Started dissipating @ 1825:12 and was gone @ 1825:22.
16363 07 Oct 2020 @ 2100 --- K.Cooper Some increase in activity, and a better overall status quo than the previous week, multiple larger boiling episodes this morning put out increased levels of water. As well, Giantess also had overall more boiling episodes, and longer periods of forced steam during the morning when the wind was calm. However, after the wind picked up in the afternoon both the boiling and forced steam episodes were minimal.
16359 07 Oct 2020 @ 0940 07 Oct 2020 @ 1230 Ben VL Pool level at the sharp rim at my arrival. The slope behind teakettle had a very small trickle on it. Had a handful of boiling episodes, the largest reached maybe 1.5' and put out a fair amount of water over the north rim. A couple others that put out a little water over the N. rim. Wind started picking up around 1200. Giantess calmed down and the pool dropped a little bit. Vault still right around the water level of right before the 9-10 GTS. Still has bubbles breaking the surface in the back. Infant seems a bit lower than yesterday.
16356 07 Oct 2020 @ 0752 --- K.Cooper Large boiling on Giantess at this time, due to steam the water could not be observed. However there was dramatically increased steam, and lots of forced steam at this time. The boil pushed out enough water to create a separate steam plume following the runoff down the channel. Runoff steam plume was not visible earlier in the morning. (Even when it was colder)
16333 05 Oct 2020 @ 1600 --- JarnoO (wc) No change in status quo over the last few days. SE runoff remains dark. Have not been able to observe many boiling episodes due to Mugwump and steamy starts of the day obscuring much of the pool and its steam (which is a good thing as Giantess' boiling - especially the larger ones - pretty much always had me on the edge of my seat). Bacterial mat has a very bright yellow color from cam. Last "general update note" for at least one or two weeks or until significant changes occur.
16320 02 Oct 2020 @ 1155 --- Ben VL Water level up to the top of the sharp rim at this time, dropped shortly after the wind really got started. Largest boil I saw in over an hour was probably 8"-10". Slope behind teakettle is just as wet as I saw 2.5 weeks ago. Vault is now at nearly the same level as it was an hour prior to the last Giantess, still has bubbles breaking the surface in the back.
16316 01 Oct 2020 @ 1720 --- JarnoO (wc) Maintained status quo (getting a bit repetitive here :D). Anyway, had some decent boiling activity throughout the day, peaking in the morning (again). This time the SE rim got involved as well, a marked break in boiling activity the past days where it was N rim-dominated. Heights usually didn't exceed 1-2 feet, perhaps 3. Two boiling episodes were of note: SE rim @ 0917:55 for ±25s at 2-3 feet and also SE rim 1054:08 for 20s 2-4 feet. Estimate would be that the SE rim had about 5% of all boiling activity, with the N rim accounting for the remainder. As for N rim regions, I estimate it was a nearly equal three-way split between the NW, N and NE regions as far as boiling episode region is considered, with the NE rim being ±more active in the afternoon than the other regions.
16314 01 Oct 2020 @ 1055 --- underarockphoto Substantial boil on Giantess. Duration roughly 9 seconds, started on the south rim and grew to a full pool boil. Height minimum of 4 feet, visual estimates range from 4 to 6+ft.
16312 30 Sep 2020 @ 1845 --- JarnoO (wc) Maintained status quo today. Overall nice boiling activity in the morning before the wind increased before noon, after which it was pretty much a flat pool for the remainder of the day. Boiling itself, however, was weaker compared with yesterday but average overall. At shorter intervals than yesterday, however (minutes apart rather than some 30-60 minutes yesterday that I could observe).
16311 30 Sep 2020 @ 0925 --- TheHikingDude (wc) Turned on the camera just in time to see a big amount of forced steam coming from the far right side of pool. This was followed by several big boils on NE side of pool and possibly a center boil.
16305 29 Sep 2020 @ 1353 --- Janet Jones 1-2 Ft boil near the rim that put out a nice amount of water
16303 29 Sep 2020 @ 1112 29 Sep 2020 @ 1305 JarnoO (wc) Large N semicircle to full pool boil 1-2 feet 1112:32 - 1112:40. Appears to have been an isolated event. Activity took a break of about 30 minutes before the next boil in W semicircle @ 1141:25, sustained for 15s up to 1-2 feet. Boils started picking up pace very slowly with N rim-focused boils. Pool-wide boil up to 2-3 feet (maybe even 4 feet) @ 1301:19 for 20s began at N rim and ended at NE rim.
16300 28 Sep 2020 @ 1600 --- JarnoO (wc) Appears to have maintained status quo since my last note. Worth noting this time is that Giantess had a few decent boiling episodes inferred by forced steam about 20-30 minutes before Beehive went, despite wind conditions being less than optimal for any activity other than overflowing strongly with the occasional (weak) boil. After Beehive I hadn't seen any boiling as of writing this note, even though the cam was on the Hill for much of the time.
16259 25 Sep 2020 @ 1855 --- JarnoO (wc) Pool appears to have been high with only fragments of the white ring visible at all times I've observed it the past 2 days or so. It appears the hot/cold phases are now only identifiable by steam output of the pool; the SE runoff itself has always been steamy over the past days. Have barely seen any boiling aside from the already noted boiling episodes from webcam, though, which is kind of surprising but also not since it has been fairly windy. New for me is a light W rim boil @ 1551 today.
16257 25 Sep 2020 @ 0958 --- JarnoO Slight progression fr 6am. Infant is starting to clear with geyser scum on sides. Pool continues to be full with some water seen in wash area William Said to keep an eye on. Vault now has minimal bubbles {entrant's note: This note was originally entered as an eruption, which it isn't. I've saved it in case it got flagged away, which it seemingly has been. Text has been kept as-is.}
16251 25 Sep 2020 @ 0805 25 Sep 2020 @ 0825 William No strong boils seen, rim boiling only. Pool level is high and runoff shoulder is damp. Vault is unchanged since my last observation. Infant water level has dropped slightly and pool appears to be a clearer brown color.
16258 25 Sep 2020 @ 0714 --- JarnoO 10 ft [sic] Light boiling, vault and infant unchanged, elk bugling {entrant's note: This note was originally entered as an eruption, which it isn't. K.Cooper saved it in case it got flagged away, which it seemingly has been. Text has been kept as-is.}
16242 23 Sep 2020 @ 1925 23 Sep 2020 @ 1945 William Pool high and multiple rim boils along the boardwalk side of the pool. Runoff down the shoulder still light with no evidence of newly wet areas. Vault with typical water level and back bubbling. Infant still muddy, splotchy and high with occasional light bubbles from the middle of the pool.
16236 23 Sep 2020 @ 1010 23 Sep 2020 @ 1035 underarockphoto Center pool boil to about 1-2ft, and 4-6ft in diameter. Lasted about 15 seconds. Repeat performance at 1011, 1015, 1018, 1024, 1026, and 1028. One of those around 1018 was quite vigorous. Boil center pool 1031. Small but sustained boil 1033. Wide center pool boil, bit punchy, 1035.
16233 22 Sep 2020 @ 1545 --- JarnoO (wc) No change in status quo, although observed boiling today seemed a little more vigorous than yesterday. Had some good boiling episodes between ±1100 to ±1200 (including a strong one covering the NE quadrant which later split into two - N and NE) and hotter than usual from 1503-onw. Over the past few days it has become apparant to me that boiling episodes happen almost exclusively when the pool is emitting more steam than usual for ambient temperatures. In this "hot" phase, it appears the pool rises to a higher-than-usual water level, causing a noticeable increase in steam at the SE runoff area. Runoff also becomes noticeably darker as this hot phase continues; this becomes apparant about 30 to 40 minutes after the start. Boiling also happens frequently, but it seems to be only of visible size (or only happen) when there's little or no wind. Some of these hot phases feature a thin, white ring around the pool, while others don't (likely the stronger hot phases). No idea on how long these hot phases last, but could easily be well over an hour or more. In the "cold" phase, it appears the pool emits steam as usual for ambient temperatures and there appears to be little or no boiling. The pool also appears low, with an easily visible, ±continuous, white ring around the pool. As for when Giantess transitions to a hot phase - I am not sure. The 1503 hot phase started with a weak, but visible, N rim boiling episode, so visible boiling while the pool is low may be an indicator for that.
16229 21 Sep 2020 @ 1900 --- William Heard, then saw 1'-2' boil on the nw side of the pool from Aurum. This was the only such boiling episode witnessed since 18:00. Runoff shoulder has some water but appears to have decreased volume since my last observation. Vault is high with light bubbles and Infant is high with muddy water and some splotchy areas of mud around the pool rim.
16221 21 Sep 2020 @ 1645 --- JarnoO (wc) Not much change in status quo since my previous note. In sunlight the SE runoff is quite dark, nearly black in certain spots. Occasional boiling episodes today spaced minutes to hours apart, including two fairly decent ones in the afternoon at the NE and N rim. Haven't seen much SE rim involvement other than a few steam pushes in the morning after the fog had cleared after 0900-ish. Did see a big, dense push before the fog had lifted (even after taking into account temperatures and humidity), which may have had its origins at the SE or NE rim.
16203 20 Sep 2020 @ 0940 --- Ben VL Water level perhaps slightly higher than yesterday, and the slope behind teakettle is more wet than yesterday. The area directly to the right of Vault looks wet.
16198 19 Sep 2020 @ 1528 19 Sep 2020 @ 1555 JarnoO (wc) Series of "quickfire" N semicircle boils 1528ie, varying from only inferrable by steam to clearly visible spaced apart seconds to minutes. Most boils were at the N rim, with the occasional boil at the NE or NW rim. Once again little to no SE rim involvement. Also noteworthy is that the already dark runoff appears to have darkened further since this morning, with *steamy* SE runoff persisting for much of the day. I suspect this steam is mainly due to lower temperatures today than yesterday - low 50s°F compared with low 70s°F yesterday, but included it nonetheless since I don't remember seeing as much yesterday morning, when the temperatures were lower than or comparable to today. A smoother stream would help, since this choppy mess of slideshow "stream" isn't making things easier.
16189 19 Sep 2020 @ 0830 19 Sep 2020 @ 0842 TheHikingDude (wc) Giantess during this time had several bursts of forced steam, each steam burst followed by 1-3 one foot boils.
16184 18 Sep 2020 @ 1850 18 Sep 2020 @ 2035 William No significant boils or rim boiling during observation. Runoff channel down the NE shoulder is wet but not trickling or pooling. Vault is at typical level with bubbles in the back of the pool. Infant is high with muddy brown water which seems to clearing with muddy splotches in the back half of the pool.
16181 18 Sep 2020 @ 1659 18 Sep 2020 @ 1915 JarnoO (wc) Winds have decreased after being unfavorably strong for much of the afternoon, with few boiling episodes noted. Interesting was that these boiling episodes were primarily at SE rim, with little involvement of the N rim. 1659 strong, bubble shower-like N rim boils covering the NW quadrant of the pool and some of the SW and NE quadrants, enough to make my heart go racing and to have noticeable shaking due to adrenaline rush. Of lesser magnitude 1703. More focused N rim boils 1719, height 1-2 feet. Of same size but short-lived 1724. N rim to center 1725, 1727. N rim 1729. Weak N rim 1736. NE rim 1741. Center pool 1744. SE steamy overflow becoming very noticeable. N rim weak 1747. Big NE rim 1749. [break]. Winds increased inbetween 1754 and 1808. N & NE rim 1821, weak. Pool appears to still be hot and overflowing copiously at the SE rim as of 1915, but haven't seen any boiling episodes since 1821. Wouldn't be surprised in the sense of unexpectedness if it goes tomorrow morning, if not overnight should it maintain status quo.
16170 18 Sep 2020 @ 0947 --- Graham Boil. Also 0955 1 foot at keast out water out NE side, 1010, 1013, 1018, 1026,
16162 18 Sep 2020 @ 0723 --- TheHikingDude 2 forced steam bursts at this time(I assume associated with big boils but hard to tell due to Geyser Hill steam)
16157 17 Sep 2020 @ 0630 17 Sep 2020 @ 2000 K.Cooper (WC), multiple periods of heavy boiling throughout the day, wind speed remained high and during the windy times, there was minimally boiling. Giantess was responding to calm periods with boiling, many of which were on the N or NE side of the pool, and a few were sustained. Earlier in the morning, the pool had excessive steaming and what appeared to be a good runoff and pool level the entire day. The largest boiling episodes of the day were noted at 1218, 1221, 1224, and 1230. There was likely boiling episodes early in the morning before the wind picked up as can be inferred by the heavy steam (already taking into account the temperatures)
16154 17 Sep 2020 @ 1330 17 Sep 2020 @ 1500 Ben VL Fresh runoff on the slope behind teakettle. Occasional simmering boil on the N/NE rim. Pool is just below the rim. NPS also installed a logger today.
16153 17 Sep 2020 @ 1211 17 Sep 2020 @ 1231 JarnoO (wc) Wind calmed down. Giantess responded by heating up and notable rim boils in the northern semicircle. 1218 NE rim, 1221 N rim, 1224 N rim, late 1230 NW quadrant sustained into mid-1231, about a foot tall and 4-5 wide per chat page viewer.
16142 16 Sep 2020 @ 1720 --- JarnoO (wc) Over the course of the day, Giantess started to widen its SE runoff source more to the south. Total runoff area is now about the same as it was before it erupted last time. Have seen a few light boils (bubble shower-like, if you will) at the SE rim and another one in the center of the pool. The latter also sustained the longest, about 45 to 60 seconds. Other than that there was a 1-2-foot SE rim boil after 0811 and before the wind had increased around noon.
16141 16 Sep 2020 @ 0811 --- TheHikingDude (wc) Giantess is in heavy overflow and several big boils happened.
16139 15 Sep 2020 @ 0910 --- JarnoO (wc) Looks very active this morning. Have seen multiple episodes of forced steam only minutes apart around 0600-0700. 0908 had inferred SE rim boils, joined later by inferred N rim boils. SE rim boils did die down within a few seconds of the N rim boils. Not quite there yet I would say.
16131 14 Sep 2020 @ 1740 --- Ben VL Giantess' pool is calm and lower than this morning. Water level is just below the sharp rim on the NE side. There is still some water in the runoff area on the North side of Giantess, but it does not extend down the slope. Vault has risen to just over an inch below the back rim.
16125 14 Sep 2020 @ 1120 --- Ben VL Giantess' water level is high. It is resting above the sharp rim on the NE side. There is a little bit of runoff on the slope behind teakettle, and the channel on the NE side of Giantess is damp as well.
16126 14 Sep 2020 @ 1115 --- JarnoO (wc) Within not even 24 hours, Giantess' SE runoff has transformed from being light gray (due to its formations drying out after the eruption) to dark gray, which is indicative of heavy overflow. This was already becoming visible yesterday, with a light gray formation that morning and a dark gray formation in the afternoon. However, the SE runoff doesn't quite yet have the width it had for the previous eruptions at its origin, so the next opportunity might be a few days away still. This does not take away that I've seen (or inferred based on forced steam) a few decent-looking boiling episodes.
16121 14 Sep 2020 @ 0656 --- K.Cooper (wc) Definitely overflowing, white bacteria mats are beginning to turn darker. Possible boiling as the camera panned over at 0655, as there was a period of forced steam for a few seconds.
16117 13 Sep 2020 @ 1938 --- Graham Steam in the runoff channel, must be overflowing.
16102 13 Sep 2020 @ 1202 --- WillBoekel at or just below overflow by about an inch
16094 12 Sep 2020 @ 1830 --- Graham No water visible but it is steamy.
16078 12 Sep 2020 @ 1010 --- TheHikingDude Giantess is completely empty and the platform its on is completely dry.

16042 11 Sep 2020 @ 0337 --- ltgangi giantess had burst start at 03:37 as viewed from WC. Viewing conditions dark but clear after a few minutes though camera lost focus. I ran get video for 13 mins.
16031 09 Sep 2020 @ 1900 09 Sep 2020 @ 2015 William Observed several 2' boils from the southeast and northwest corners of the pool. Durations ~15-20s. Rim of the pool displaying intermittent boiling. Northwest runoff channel is wet. Vault has high resting water and light bubbling from the back corners of the pool. Infant is very high with light brown water.
16028 09 Sep 2020 @ 1731 --- K.Cooper EricZ first noticed this boil. Started at 17:31:35, sustained along the northern side 1-2ft for 23 seconds. Some follow up boiling continued until the end of Beehives eruption.
16027 09 Sep 2020 @ 1100 --- JarnoO (wc) 1100:00; center pool boil sustaining for 20s. Height 1-2 feet. Wind is strong enough to blow steam nearly horizontally to the southwest.
16022 08 Sep 2020 @ 1837 --- K.Cooper Large central boiling in the center of the pool; estimated 2ft high and sustained. 4 to 5ft wide (at least). These have been noticed throughout the day.
15998 06 Sep 2020 @ 1500 --- JarnoO (wc) Over the past few days, Giantess' unbleached southeastern runoff area has changed gradually from roughly cream white to gray to dark gray and, as of today, almost black in a few spots, which is consistent with increased overall runoff covering areas which usually don't get much water. There have been several boiling episodes as well, a few of which got me to the edge of my chair. Another observation is that boiling episodes appear to be less common (or nearly invisible) in the afternoon and evening than in the morning, which coincides with increasing winds as the day passes. Boiling episodes seem to be minutes to hours apart based on forced steam, especially the better ones. They appear to be sustaining for about half a minute as rough maximum, with the odd one out lasting longer (one of which I observed lasted ±1 minute based on forced steam). In that regard not much has changed since the 26 August 2020 eruption, however, it did get to this state within 9 days, whereas before the eruption it took a week or more to see any significant change.
15995 06 Sep 2020 @ 1012 --- JarnoO (wc) Large SE rim boils just as the cam zoomed in on Aurum. Very white water, height 2-3 feet.
15970 05 Sep 2020 @ 1028 --- JarnoO (wc) Sustained boiling migrated from SW rim to SE rim starting @ 1028:41 and ended @ 1029:06. Height perhaps 1-2, maybe 3 feet.
15930 02 Sep 2020 @ 0942 02 Sep 2020 @ 0943 ltgangi appears the bacteria mat is reestablishing itself to the right where steaming runoff can be seen from cam
15903 31 Aug 2020 @ 0918 --- JarnoO (wc) Appeared to have had a boiling episode (likely SE rim) in this minute accompanied by very forced steam and steadily steamier runoff before it calmed down.
15895 30 Aug 2020 @ 1010 --- JarnoO (wc) Pool appears to be full.
15914 30 Aug 2020 @ 0606 30 Aug 2020 @ 0607 ltgangi giantess appeared to be full and we observed steamy runoff on the right hand side as viewed by cam.
15779 29 Aug 2020 @ 1135 --- Tara Pool is calm abd has refilled to within about 6" of rim.
15775 28 Aug 2020 @ 2000 28 Aug 2020 @ 2130 William Light steam with occasional weak pushes of steam. Vault quiet. Infant is intermittently boiling to 2' with water level 4" below the crater rim and has exposed an inner rim on the close side to the boardwalk.
15760 28 Aug 2020 @ 0838 --- underarockphoto Spritzing at the start of an extended steam huff. Still technically ie at 47H 38M
15757 27 Aug 2020 @ 1911 27 Aug 2020 @ 2045 William last observed bursting from Giantess started at 19:11. A few audible surges within the crater but no more water ejected during this time.
15752 27 Aug 2020 @ 1659 --- iflykc10s Some strong bursts at 16:48. Photos on FB.
15742 27 Aug 2020 @ 0450 --- underarockphoto Giantess is still IE, lit up by frequent lightning.
15486 10 Aug 2020 @ 1109 --- JarnoO (wc) North rim boils for 13s. A tad bigger than the previous boils seen, but was primarily concentrated on one spot rather than an area.
15359 04 Aug 2020 @ 1330 04 Aug 2020 @ 1331 JarnoO (wc) Two boiling episodes in this time frame. 1) Southeastern rim for 6s starting @ 1330:21 and 2) Center of pool for 10s starting @ 1331:36 at south rim and migrated within seconds to center of pool. Both heights perhaps 1 foot, maybe 2.
15148 02 Aug 2020 @ 0949 02 Aug 2020 @ 1000 JarnoO (wc) Observed several boiling episodes during this timeframe. 0949 ie southeast rim 1-2 feet; 0950 suspect southeast rim; 0952 10s southeast rim 1-2 feet; 0954 early suspect southeast rim; 0954:48 24s southeast rim up to 2 feet; 0958:12 50s north rim vigorous up to 2 feet, perhaps lucky 3; 0959:42 27s southeastern quadrant (perhaps eastern half) vigorous up to 2 feet, perhaps optimistic 3; mid-1000 suspect north or southeast rim before cam panned away.
15134 31 Jul 2020 @ 1916 --- JarnoO (wc) North rim boils for a few seconds. Height appeared to be never higher than a foot.
15133 31 Jul 2020 @ 1736 --- JarnoO (wc) North rim boils >7s (cam panned away). Height before panning away at most a foot, though began picking up height just as it went out of frame. Probably no higher than 2 though.
15135 31 Jul 2020 @ 1412 --- JarnoO (wc) North rim boils 12s. Height 1-2 feet.
15130 31 Jul 2020 @ 1257 --- JarnoO (wc) North rim boils 9s. Height 1 foot, perhaps a lucky 2 feet.
15114 27 Jul 2020 @ 1402 --- JarnoO (wc) Boiling for ±32s in southeastern quadrant, with about the first 10 seconds also incorporating parts of the southwestern quadrant. Height 1-2 feet. Did not feature much of a pause like the 17 July 1138 boiling episode. Rather, there was a period of calm with boiling exclusive to the southeastern rim with the remainder of the area slightly lighter blue than the rest of the pool, followed by boiling in much of the southeastern quadrant before going flat.
15052 20 Jul 2020 @ 1650 --- JarnoO (wc) Boiling for about 12 seconds along southeastern rim. Height 2-3 feet.
15051 20 Jul 2020 @ 1615 --- JarnoO (wc) Sustained, 29s boil to about a foot (maybe 2) at northeastern rim. Started at the eastern edge and later migrated slightly westward to northern rim.
15048 20 Jul 2020 @ 1155 --- KevinS 6-7” boil 3’ wide on north rim. Duration 5 seconds.
15047 20 Jul 2020 @ 1105 --- KevinS Boils up to 3” height lasting 5 seconds. Boils on North side.
15037 19 Jul 2020 @ 1542 --- Forestbewithyou (wc) Large and tall area of boiling on the center to south-east ridge of the pool. Sustained for 18 seconds without any pauses. Height estimate is 4-5 ft. Pool calm and placid at 1543.
15017 17 Jul 2020 @ 1138 --- JarnoO (wc) wide area of boiling center to south-east edge of pool. Held for 26 seconds with a pause about half-way. Height estimate 1-2 feet before pause (revised down based on later insight). 3-4 feet per RyanM. Less intense 1140.
14901 07 Jul 2020 @ 0526 --- underarockphoto Boiling/surging popped a nice steam cloud. Steamy runoff down much of the way towards the boardwalk by little squirt.
14215 19 May 2020 @ 1318 --- Janet Jones Steady trickle of water coming from Giantess toward Vault and Teakettle.
14211 19 May 2020 @ 0835 --- underarockphoto Long push. What appeared to be visible white water down the south channels. Lots of steam.
14210 19 May 2020 @ 0830 --- underarockphoto Another surge from Giantess, water mostly to the south with some to the north. Light makes it hard to see boils so I can only assume its general levels of overflow. Surges continue every few minutes to ten minutes, this will be my last note unless there is something major.
14209 19 May 2020 @ 0812 --- underarockphoto Another discreet surge from Giantess with a forced steam column. Water overflowed towards Vault and a steamy wave down towards Silver Spring. These steam surges are happening every two-five minutes.
14208 19 May 2020 @ 0809 --- underarockphoto Sustained surge from Giantess put steamy runoff towards Vault.
14172 14 Apr 2020 @ 0800 --- underarockphoto NOT an April Fool's Joke. Substantial boil on Giantess at this time. The cam panned away but for a second I thought it was actually starting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N5rzfRtDJ0&feature=youtu.be Boil was at 08:00:36 and appears to be possibly up to 5-6ft high.
14023 06 Dec 2019 @ 0832 --- underarockphoto Appeared to have two boils, both enough size to make a sizeable steam plume. Very brief, lasting only a few seconds - about a minute apart. Weather is 25°F and Giantess has a fairly light steam plume - this was notably larger than its normal steam. Almost certainly just a ho-hum boil, but the timing made me leave the note.
14009 08 Nov 2019 @ 1347 --- Kitt B Nice boil on Giantess.
13474 31 Aug 2019 @ 1111 --- c.barwin 2-3' boil that pushed a good amount of water over the rim toward the boardwalk.
13473 31 Aug 2019 @ 0955 --- c.barwin front edge boiling was high enough to send several boil ups over the edge facing the boardwalk.
13463 30 Aug 2019 @ 1125 --- EmilyW Just saw a 1-2’ boil from lower hams at this time
13340 21 Aug 2019 @ 1233 21 Aug 2019 @ 1249 Minafuku Three series of boils that got about 8 to 10 inches high, but nothing to write home about. I was more intrigued by the high water in Vault, there’s a very slight trickle out of the back.
12553 02 Jul 2019 @ 1408 02 Jul 2019 @ 1515 Ben VL Walked up to near continuous boiling noise with a small north rim boil strong enough to agitate the entire surface. Boiling events along the north rim occurring every 2 or 3 minutes to at least 6", with stronger ones reaching one or two feet occurring about every 10 minutes. Boils were anywhere from 1/3 to 3/4 the width of the pool. I did not notice any significant discharge or runoff out of the north end of the pool. Boiling events slowed to about every 10 minutes after the wind picked up, and tended to be slightly smaller. One boil to about 2' was also noted from Aurum sometime before 1600.
11382 21 May 2019 @ 1820 --- Ben VL Brief boil to at least 6". Looked to be on the Southwest side of the rim.
11375 21 May 2019 @ 1230 --- Ben VL A couple small boils along the north rim noted during the couple minutes we sat there.
11266 18 May 2019 @ 1600 --- steve Giantess is having north face boils, although the highest I saw was only about 2 feet. For some reason I did not catch the interval for the boils
9494 06 Aug 2018 @ 1235 06 Aug 2018 @ 1236 udo North edge boils are a few inches tall as viewed when seated by Aurum.
9112 10 Jul 2018 @ 1215 10 Jul 2018 @ 1222 udo Barely boiling. Lake placid. Water level is about an inch below rim as best as I can estimate from b'walk. Very little overflow.
8128 09 May 2018 @ 0840 09 May 2018 @ 0912 udo North rim boils are audible about every 2 to 5 minutes. Superheated boiling is continuous. Has a long way to go. Hope my opinion is proven wrong.
4821 07 Aug 2017 @ 1600 --- EmilyW Back to a placid pool, very weak slight boiling around northeast side, vault well below overflow
4512 21 Jul 2017 @ 1344 --- geysergaze A day of good boiling episodes but at 13:44 we had a full pool boil. The entire surface was boiling 2-3.feet Followed by quiet I've never seen it do that except in a full eruption
4481 18 Jul 2017 @ 1310 --- geysergaze Heavy boils every 2-3 minutes putting water outside of crater. Pool much hotter. Intervals increased to over 10 minutes after the wind started
4426 09 Jul 2017 @ 0845 --- udo No longer a placid lake. Looks more like Crested Pool but with constant upwellings and roiling boils every 1-2 minutes mostly along north rim but also in mid-crater. Promising?? Definitely hotter than this Spring and early Summer.
3857 05 Nov 2016 @ 1100 --- Janet Jones Boiling loud enough to get me to turn around while watching for signs of life from Peanut. Overflow stronger from Giantess than I've seen over the past couple of months, and overflowing toward the Boardwalk while standing at Vault. No ice or standing water in the overflow channel that flows between the boardwalk and Teakettle, though.
