34234 19 Apr 2024 @ 0920 --- MAB channel is green - one of the perpetual sputs downstream active the higher one not active - small tree on the berm has lost needles whether from hot steam or hot ground unknown
28986 21 Oct 2023 @ 1605 --- JR Noticeable lower water level around pool. More clearly defined feature rather than covered with water.
28643 05 Oct 2023 @ 1317 --- cb channels are dark green except for a whiteish section between the 2 active bubblers that are 15'-20' above Splutterpot.
28355 19 Sep 2023 @ 0941 --- novakg There was white stuff in the runoff channel near Pinwheel and down the channel a bit. I'm not suggesting an eruption. Green stuff is all intact. Just hotter water near the Pinwheel vent. Basically confirming Carol's earlier observation.
28235 12 Sep 2023 @ 1314 --- cb runoff channel closest to the pool is whiteish with green algae along the edges. 1/2 way to the boardwalk runoff channel is fully green.
27312 29 Jul 2023 @ 0845 --- bbev Heavy runoff, channel is white with only a hint of red or green. Large steamcloud seen from museum. Could not see any water through all the steam, only heavy runoff, after walking down.

21205 06 May 2022 @ 1054 --- MAB channel green
20180 28 Oct 2021 @ 0844 --- MAB channel below Pinwheel a striking dark green - a few white stripes immediately below small features but green returns asap and continues til it meets Whirligig runoff at the BW bridge just above the logger
20001 16 Oct 2021 @ 1338 --- cb Run off channel is back to mostly green color
19232 01 Sep 2021 @ 0902 --- MAB more green returning in center of channels not just edges - still very dark green upstream of Pinwheel's vent
18761 31 Jul 2021 @ 1500 --- MAB After a heavy rain Pinwheel runoff changed to pea soup color - then to pistachio ice cream color - then to bad 2% milk color - during the deluge these colors were visible above Pinwheel - after waters went down more pronounced below Pinwheel
18769 31 Jul 2021 @ 0845 --- MAB dark green above Pinwheel vent - more green growing on edges of channel farther down - center channels still white with tiny flecks of green
18667 25 Jul 2021 @ 1819 --- cb Edges of the pool are not green, they are muddy gray and pool is low by 4". Runoff channels are basically still white with more green algae on the sides than last observed.
18472 14 Jul 2021 @ 1720 --- MAB Channel still white with faint green developing in some spots along edges and past the boardwalk - very green above Pinwheel's vent area - nothing upstream has pushed out hot water
17861 16 Jun 2021 @ 0850 --- novakg Pinwheel runoff continues to be scoured white.
17839 15 Jun 2021 @ 0840 --- novakg Laurie reports that Pinwheel's runoff channel has been scoured of the green stuff and is now white.

14544 05 Jun 2020 @ 0903 --- bbev Tall, billowing, steam column coming from Pinwheel area. Normally green runoff channel coming from that area, now a brilliant white. Runoff under boardwalk mostly white, having taken even some of the red out of Whirligig's channel.
12926 01 Aug 2019 @ 1230 01 Aug 2019 @ 1530 cb copious discharge coming from the pinwheel area and above it that is starting to change the runoff channel color to a pockmarked light green. No eruption seen.
29127 30 Jul 2019 @ 1110 --- research-mab 7/30/2019 Pinwheel spotted @ 1110 {NOTE: with benefit of hindsight this won't be added as an eruption. Blooping and increased flow were seen by others but the channel below remained green. During this time the feature upstream was often confused with Pinwheel as well. mab}
11586 04 Jun 2019 @ 1321 04 Jun 2019 @ 1517 novakg From at least 1321 until 1517 when we left, the area near Pinwheel was "blooping," for lack of a better word. These could be seen above the bern from the Constant bench and would slightly increase the runoff from that direction.
11027 20 Apr 2019 @ 0930 --- MAB Water in runoff channel slightly murky, probably from features upstream of Pinwheel but worth mentioning.
10722 04 Nov 2018 @ 0954 --- MAB Definite convection over the vent. Earlier this summer noticed the white below Pinwheel never grew back after the July eruption - now with the algae dark dark dark DARK green the white stripe is is very pronounced. Water entering from above is green.
3308 14 Jul 2016 @ 1040 --- MAB Runoff continues in formerly dry 3rd (west) channel. 60C and green is not returning until downstream of Splutterpot. The increased flow may be from Sand Spring but that channel above Pinwheel's crater is still dark green.
3017 08 Jun 2016 @ 1500 08 Jun 2016 @ 2000 MAB Pinwheel runoff brighter white, twigs wet and moved, some water in 3rd (west) runoff channel. Basin had been closed due to thermal death incident, but I will ask staff if they had seen anything out of Pinwheel since the 5th when things are calmer.
2484 05 Oct 2015 @ 1055 --- MAB Steamy morning. Upon arrival 1030 water was flowing in the 3rd (west) runoff channel and the flat sinter spot was half-wet and debris moved to the east. Just before 1055 I noticed increased steam and runoff, and saw the flat sinter spot was submerged. A push from Pinwheel, or something else upstream? Too steamy to tell, but it's worth watching. Though I saw that flow increase, green is growing back in the 2 easterly channels.
2399 21 Sep 2015 @ 0940 --- MAB Flat sinter area in westerly runoff channel, my visual 'marker' (not the formerly green and not with water currently flowing) was wet upon arrival, and dried off and remained dry the rest of the day. Convection seen in the pool later in the warmth of day at 1352 and 1625 (the times I looked, not implying that's the only time it had convection)
2376 18 Sep 2015 @ 1151 --- MAB Slight convection in the vent observed all day when visiting this spot. I left to go watch Graceful and get the end. Upon my return the runoff was cloudy, and a previously dry area in the most westerly runoff channel (not the ones usually green) was wet. It was dry again by afternoon. Unknown if this came from a Pinwheel push or from that thing upstream around the corner. I include the time here in case we see it on YVO, but (!) Whirligig started right after that, so will probably be indistinguishable.
2355 15 Sep 2015 @ 0948 15 Sep 2015 @ 1748 MAB Lots of water coming through the pool from above on a rainy steamy day. Slight convection in the vent and a few blips were observed in late afternoon 1548,1735. I will observe the spouter around the corner and watch for lulls to see how the Pinwheel pool looks then. No sign of green regrowth in the runoff channel.
29452 04 Aug 2012 @ 1200 --- research-mab 8/4/2012 - no time noted - Pinwheel is very cloudy and grey-green color and is bubbling from two spots and is making all the runoff cloudy. It is normaly [sic] clear.

31464 02 Aug 1981 @ 1200 --- research-mab Sunday August 2 1981 - no time noted - Pinwheel Geyser 130ºF
4621 29 Sep 1980 @ 1200 --- research-mab 9/29/1980 - no time - Pinwheel Geyser was likewise drained and considerably hotter- water level was down 16 inches temp 195 -There was absolutely no water flowing into or out of Pinwheel
31809 27 Sep 1980 @ 1200 --- research-mab Saturday September 27 1980 - no time noted - Pinwheel – filled back up again, gray water 101ºF
31788 22 Sep 1980 @ 1100 --- research-mab 9-22-1980 - inferred time - Water flow leaving Porcelain Basin was down sharply today. Perhaps 1/5 of normal flow. Part of the decrease was due to Blue Geyser draining during the morning. Soon after...Blue Quit, Pinwheel drained. Green algae is beginning to make a reappearance in Constant’s runoff. All other algae remains mud coated.
4613 22 Sep 1980 @ 1030 --- research-mab 9/22/1980 Pinwheel Dark gray, turbid, and gently bubbling from close to a dozen locations, small amount of water flowing in and out at 10:30. By 11:10 Pinwheel had drained serving as a receptacle for water flowing from northern portions of Porcelain Basin.
31746 09 Sep 1980 @ 1201 --- research-mab Tuesday Sept 9 1980 - no time noted - Pinwheel Geyser - green bottom, slightly murky 110°F, water entering 144°F so Pinwheel is cooling the water entering it.
31623 08 Jun 1980 @ 1200 --- research-mab June 8 1980 - no time noted - Pinwheel Geyser – 120ºF, nice green algae, clear water, water flowing into pinwheel -116ºF
32017 04 Oct 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab October 4 1979 - no time noted - Blue still muddy & sending muddy water into Pinwheel which has filled back up and is overflowing.
31993 27 Sep 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab September 27 1979 - no time noted - Pinwheel – 99ºF muddy grey drain for water of Porcelain Basin. Runoff entering Pinwheel at 100ºF
31980 26 Sep 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab September 26 1979 - no time noted - Pinwheel continues to be a receptacle for the waters of Porcelain Basin. Pools are clearing up through Porcelain, however, the out flow of water remains a turbid grey and low in volume.
31973 21 Sep 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab Friday September 21 1979 - no time noted - More end of summer changes! Pinwheel Geyser has drained 5 inches below normal level. This morning there was no water draining into it from the plain to the north.
31954 20 Sep 1979 @ 1800 --- research-mab Thursday Sept 20 1979 - Disturbance check after 1730 - Pinwheel Geyser - Water level 2 to 3 inches above normal level and flooding over a much larger area. Most likely due to heavy runoff of dark gray water flowing into it. Pool itself it an opaque dark gray. 116ºF.
31936 18 Sep 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab Sept 18 1979 - no time noted - Pinwheel Geyser 141°
31920 04 Sep 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab Sept 4 1979 - no time noted - When we reached Pinwheel there were no signs of activity. The orange algae that had been growing right up to the vent now has died 5 feet back. (looks old though)
31914 28 Aug 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab Aug 28 1979 - no time noted - Pinwheel splashing around, not as turbid as when this activity was noted earlier in the summer. There is not as much water flowing down the channels in Porcelain Basin.
31907 24 Aug 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab August 24 1979 Pinwheel was splashing to 2 feet at 12:00 today. Muddy Grey water.
31831 18 Jun 1979 @ 1200 --- research-mab June 18 1979 - no time noted - Pinwheel is cleared up and quiet today but does have a new sediment layer coating the bottom
5023 17 Jun 1979 @ 1400 --- research-mab 06/17/1979 By 1400 this afternoon Pinwheel had cleared up considerably and was no longer boiling up. Blue Geyser back in operation by 1345
5022 17 Jun 1979 @ 1015 --- research-mab 06/17/1979 Pinwheel may be reactivating. The pool is very muddy, with increased overflow and periodic boiling several inches high. Must keep an eye on Pinwheel. Periodically splashing up to 2’
32220 15 Sep 1978 @ 1200 --- research-mab 09/15/1978 - no time noted - ...basin wide disturbances continue! - Sand Spring – water has been drained out for at least 2 days. Temp 165ºF = Pinwheel Geyser – water level down 1 inch. Very little run off entering with Sand Spring down. Grey water in pool. Temp 126ºF
32191 09 Sep 1978 @ 1200 --- research-mab 09/09/1978 - no time noted - Pinwheel Geyser – had quite murky water. A number of pine needles were stirred up. Algae still present.
5120 06 Sep 1977 @ 1200 06 Sep 1977 @ 1730 research-mab 09/06/1977 The drain-fill cycle of Pinwheel is related to the drain-fill-erupt pattern of Blue Geyser. At ~1200 Blue was erupting & Pinwheel was full. At 1730 Blue was drained & Pinwheel was losing water.
32322 04 Sep 1977 @ 1200 --- research-mab 09/04/1977 - no time noted - There is no water draining into Pinwheel. & no water leaving. The pool itself is down about a foot & bubbling 6-8” high.
32318 02 Sep 1977 @ 1200 --- research-mab 09/02/1977 - no time noted - Although Sand Spring still has no runoff there is more water draining into Pinwheel.
5127 29 Aug 1977 @ 1800 --- research-mab 08/29/1977 Pinwheel Geyser is drained down about a foot or so that there is no runoff and only a small amount of incoming water.
