Note:8/7/1985 - no time - Summary of some of the features in the Back basin. Echinus Geyser – Echinus geyser has mainly been having long eruptions and been erupting about an hour in intervals. First: most eruptions are 13 (or so) to near 20 minutes long – almost all these eruptions – are nearly an hour apart in their intervals and all eruptions except the one after a short eruption- the pool level is near the bottom of turtle rock. Every 2 or 3 eruptions there is a short eruption 7 to 13 minutes long. The intervals before this short eruptions are always an hour long but the intervals always after these short eruptions are always 45 to 53 minutes – little less than an hour. Also, as noted above, the pool level for the next eruption after the short eruption is always at the top of turtle rock. All the other eruptions erupt from the pool level near the bottom of turtle rock. The eruptions have been long & mostly normal eruptions – up to 50 feet w/occasional bursts to 75 or 80 feet at the highest.
