Note:Wednesday 13 June 1984 - no time noted - Returned to the scene this morning to survey the damage. Steamboat was still in steam phase, raining on everyone who passed by. The boardwalk from Dr. Allen’s Paintpots to east of Steamboat was coated with silt and small stones. New erosion indicated the direction of the eruption and the tremendous amount of water ejected. Cistern was down 2-3 ft, exposing gorgeous ledging and an NPS gray internal crater.
