29064 22 Oct 2023 @ 1302 --- SantaFe108 Several small sputs erupting <1ft high between Incline and the base of the hill. Incline's pool remains a swampy green color. Water level drop has uncovered alot of spouters in the Porcelain Springs, with some reaching 15-20 feet high. One of them periodically producing a LOUD chugging audible from the museum, but I can't see which one it is. Sinkhole to the NE of Swiss Cheese Pool remains empty and is acting as a runoff drain.
24505 28 Oct 2022 @ 1555 --- MAB Incline Area - the steam vent seen last year that became perpetually IE this year with groundwater from Nuphar at the base of the old road was a hole acting as a drain - no steam
22686 17 Jul 2022 @ 1200 --- MAB NGB: Increased cyclic activity from three holes up slope NNE from Incline G, just below the two grindstone looking mounds, with heavy forced splashes then a roar of steam, then quiet, repeated in waves. This appears to be very nearly in the same location as the blowout which occurred in Sept 1971 and will do some photo comparisons. Will keep an eye on it! - - - Visible water also is pulsing out below the thick sinter at the base of the slope below the old roadway E of the Incline location. Farther south cool groundwater from the over full Nuphar area also continues to flow at a steady rate into the basin but the green algae growths are diminishing. - - - Cross referencing this as an Incline Note since finding things in Other Geyser is not always simple if you don't remember the year.
22300 01 Jul 2022 @ 1201 --- MAB Boiling water/vents at the base of roadbed east of Incline G - could be waters from Nuphar meeting a steamvent or an actual thermal breakout - not noticed 4 days earlier
22160 27 Jun 2022 @ 1210 --- MAB Nuphar groundwaters still flowing out base of old road bed below sign but similar spot nearest Incline has ceased leaving dried green growth - other Nuphar notes are under event non geyser related
18037 22 Jun 2021 @ 1410 --- MAB Incline area is sinter clogged - w lack of water flowing down from Porcelain Spgs it is super dry with many very noisy hissing vents
10366 17 Sep 2018 @ 0845 --- Siegmund Flooded. Pool full of milky water. No boiling. Adjacent UNNGs active.
8762 18 Jun 2018 @ 1019 --- JSJ No spouting, but noisy fumaroles in area.
4236 06 Jun 2017 @ 1145 06 Jun 2017 @ 1925 JSJ Incline Geyser was active from 10 vents, plus from a fracture zone next to the base of the hillside.
1175 07 Jul 2014 @ 0000 07 Jul 2014 @ 2359 JSJ In eruption - doing the perpetual spouting thing (it wasn't doing that in early June 2014 during my previous visit).  Five erupting vents observed.
1196 02 Jun 2014 @ 1200 02 Jun 2014 @ 1800 JSJ None of Incline Geyser's vents is erupting - mostly bare whitish geyserite present.  Water levels in all vents (except one) not visible.  Visible low water level in one of the larger northern vents - observed in the late afternoon on 2 June 2014.
29439 15 Jul 2012 @ 0800 --- research-mab 7/15/2012 Incline 0800 {NOTE no clue what was seen - added as Note not eruption}
29931 19 Apr 1998 @ 1200 --- research-mab 4/19/98 - no time noted - Lots of activity between Blue & Incline. This area is becoming very hot.
29922 06 Apr 1998 @ 1200 --- research-mab 4/6/1998 - no time noted - Lots of interesting things going on in Porcelain Basin... . But, the area from Blue over to Incline is VERY active!! Lots of boiling & spitting out there. Incline is ½ full and boiling heavily. The fissures created by the 1971 HTE near Incline is also very active. This could become an interesting area to watch.
30177 08 Aug 1994 @ 1200 --- research-mab 8/8/1994 - no times noted - Disturbance continues!! Blue is very active. Incline is churning heavily.
30170 07 Aug 1994 @ 1200 --- research-mab 8/7/1994 - no times noted - the time has come for our Mjr annual disturbance - . Incline is agitated. ?
30229 19 May 1993 @ 1200 --- research-mab 5/19/93 - no time noted - Water is flowing from the base of Porcelain terrace into Incline Geyser’s hole; the amount is less today than it has been for the past two days.
7044 12 Oct 1992 @ 1630 --- JarnoO just ended
30480 22 Sep 1992 @ 1200 --- research-mab 9/22/1992 - no time noted - Incline quiet
30340 07 Jun 1992 @ 1200 --- research-mab June 7, 1992 - no time noted - Incline steaming, looks like its erupting
30610 08 Oct 1991 @ 1200 --- research-mab 10/8 - no time noted - Incline periodically bursting 2 or 3 feet above crater – water splashing out of vent toward Porcelain Terrace makes area wet for 10’-15’.
30602 22 Aug 1991 @ 1200 --- research-mab Aug 22/1991 - no time noted - Incline bursts are increasing in duration and height. A 5’ or so wet pattern can now be seen around the vent. Is this to be a winter geyser?
30560 21 Jul 1991 @ 1200 --- research-mab 7/21/1991 - no time noted - “Incline” is erupting to 3 feet or so
30558 19 Jul 1991 @ 1200 --- research-mab 7/19/1991 - no time noted - Incline Geyser erupting.
30513 18 May 1991 @ 1200 --- research-mab 5/18/1991 - no time noted - Incline geyser is being inundated by 3 leaking springs from the base of the hill. These are cold (Rick thinks perhaps runover from Nuphar Lake). These cold “springs” has quite a strong flow – good to watch them for signs of decrease and to see how that will affect Incline. Will it come back?
30506 16 May 1991 @ 1200 --- research-mab 5/16/1991 - no time noted - Incline – hillside has eroded quite a bit over the winter. Water in crater is milky blue and gently turbulent, crater has enlarged
30488 10 Feb 1991 @ 1200 --- research-mab 2/10/1991 - no time noted - Incline! Splashes every ½ min to 2 or 3 feet – 5’ of wet around rim Hillside looks washed & fresh gravel area on sinter below it
30689 27 Sep 1990 @ 1200 --- research-mab 9/27 - no time noted - Incline apparently quiet – no dampness on silica “apron” around it.
30683 25 Sep 1990 @ 1200 --- research-mab 9/25 - no time noted - Incline very quiet.
30680 19 Sep 1990 @ 1200 --- research-mab 9/19 - no time noted - Incline may be lengthening interval will check tomorrow but visitors report waiting 40 min w/no eruption.
30678 14 Sep 1990 @ 1600 --- research-mab 9/14 - inferred approx time - Incline erupts from left (northernmost) side of crater – nearly continuous heavy boil in right. Rainbow in p.m. 1619 45 sec 1642 58 sec 1706 78 sec – has ten min worth of small bursts from eruptive vent some splashing sev feet out of crater.
30665 11 Sep 1990 @ 1921 --- research-mab 9/11 Incline is very active with eruptions apparently every 20 min. or so. Most eruptions go 50+ feet, well to the top of the hill beyond the boardwalk (on the old roadbed) It’s a beautiful cascading arc gradually building in height and power for a minute or so, then rapidly diminishing to nothing. The water swirls through the silica rushway its building around the crater and rushes into the crater (it looks like a drinking fountain!) Superb! More intervals tomorrow, I hope. 1921 d~= 70 sec. Minor splashing just out of crater 1945 d~= 70 sec. Minor splashing just out of crater.
30659 18 Aug 1990 @ 1200 --- research-mab 8-18 - no times noted - Incline Geyser erupted every 1-2 minutes 2-3 meters; there was a continuous eruption from the back part of the vent (observations from geyser gazer)
30618 05 May 1990 @ 1014 --- research-mab 5/5/1990 - arrived at “New Porcelain Springs” at 1014 – very dry around crater – doesn’t appear to have erupted recently. Small amount of water in bottom of crater – nearly constant turbulent boil.- Stayed till 1123- no eruption - - - Small geyser at 10 o’clock or so from “New Porcelain” with peach colored crater erupts about 1½ ‘ every minute or so – very pretty as it drains. ← beginning of Lambchop.
4706 11 Mar 1990 @ 1200 --- research-mab 3/11/1990 Our new geyser has actually expanded a crater that was about 10 x 13’ last summer. We saw frequent small eruptions from it (just within its crater). It seems that about 5 minutes before an eruption now there are light splashes and the steam vent near it increase in activity
4705 10 Mar 1990 @ 1200 --- research-mab 3/10/1990 ...erupts obliquely to the east (about 60º), height 60-80’. A second vent erupts to the west about 15’ high. The eastern jet is eroding the hillside away and washing sinter gravels (2-3”) into the geyser’s vent. Duration is 35-45 seconds. whittlesey
10934 23 Feb 1990 @ 1200 --- research-mab 2/231990 {no time given} Activity 1st seen by Arden Bailey
30808 03 Jul 1988 @ 1200 --- research-mab 7/3/1988 - no time noted - In Porcelain Springs terrace area there is a large area submerged now that drains into the big hole exploded in 1983 (?) Also the eruption doesn’t occur from the hole, but rather from several vents on the south side.
4698 02 Jul 1988 @ 1800 --- research-mab 7/2/1988 INCLINE In Porcelain Springs terrace area - there is a large area submerged now that drains into the big hole exploded in 1983 (?) Also the eruption doesn’t occur from the hole, but rather from several vents on the south side.
4689 24 May 1987 @ 1800 --- research-mab 5/24/1987 NOTE INCLINE Constant had a 2 burst eruption today. Whirligig erupted once, Splutter pot often. The “Blowout” Geyser is erupting, and has a number of new companions.
7681 26 Jun 1986 @ 1800 --- research-mab 6-26-1986 Unnamed 1983 Outbreak in SE corner of Porcelain Basin. Sinter slab & fragments in vent are stained black to very dark maroon & red. Vent is continuous spouter deflected by sinter sheet slab roof with opalescent blue water down ~1m. High frequency vibration of sinter sheet roof at north edge of crater. T=200º
7679 12 Feb 1986 @ 1100 --- research-mab 02/12/1986 Ruptured sinter sheet, SE corner of Porcelain Basin. Occurred between 2-6 & 2-11-83. Center of vent (26’) 7.9m from base of slope of old roadway. Maximum height 3-6 meters. Water drains into collapse pit of 1972 basin-wide disturbance at base of slope about 12m to the SW. Maximum thickness of ruptured sinter is 12cm. Water is turbid dark gray. L 21 1/2” major rupture W 25’ 7.6m 33’8” 10-3m Vent 5’ 1.5m Vent to south end of 71 blow-out 20.7m Vent to drain at base of slope 50’ 15.2m
4840 03 Jul 1985 @ 1900 --- research-mab 7/3/1985 Each eruption was very short-lasting 15 to 30 seconds only. Since the eruption vent is still under the overlying rock so when it spouts the water is forced to the sides – some of the water comes up thru the nearby cracks to maybe 1 to 2 feet high. Most of the water though is shot across the blowout hole maybe 4 to 5 feet or so. You can see the water starting to erupt under the rock – 5 seconds or so before it comes up above the rock.
31026 02 Sep 1984 @ 1200 --- research-mab 9/2/1984 - no time noted - Much activity on Porcelain compared to normal. The Blow Out is erupting ~ every 6 ½ minutes.
31016 21 Aug 1984 @ 1200 --- research-mab Lognote 8/22 "last night" - no time noted - Last night the Blow Out on Porcelain erupted for 6 seconds very strong – water actually shot up above the lip of the hole
7629 11 Feb 1984 @ 1140 11 Feb 1984 @ 1211 research-mab 02/11/1984 Each eruption was a steamy heavy spray emerging from under the northeast ledge or rim which was ejected horizontally to the south for a distance of approximately 5 meters. A barely perceptible rise in water level of less than 5 cm with an increase in horizontal flow of superheated bubbles across the pools surface form the northeast rim was the only sign that the next play was imminent. Mid interval activity was continuous splashing 0.4-1.2m from the central east portion of the cloudy dark blue gray pool.
4670 22 Aug 1983 @ 1730 --- research-mab 8/22/1983 Blowout - The geyser constantly splashed from an empty pool until often before an eruption a noticeable build up of steam occurred. The normal splashing stopped soon after that and the pool began to fill rapidly from a long crack in the side of the crater, sort of like a waterfall. When the pool filled an eruption began from the crack with water being thrown violently out to the side and splashed out a few feet. After the eruption normal, but higher, upright splashing started again from the full pool and lessened in height to normal as the pool drained.
4672 17 Aug 1983 @ 1730 --- research-mab (more info than the raw times-mab) Log: New Geyser in Porcelain Basin (Blowout?) Started observing at 1345 (8/17) At this time it was continually spouting with bursts coming out at a sharp angle. 1408:15 – spouting stopped and “draining” sound was heard 1408:23 – a loud jet of steam came out 1409:30 – steam stopped and the pool filled to the top. 1409:51 – a “major” eruption began – the water erupted straight up higher than the normal spouting 1411- normal spouting began- no pause at the end of the major (blended together) Majors like the one described except there was no jet of steam (pool filled) 1459:15 d=~2m, 1520:06 d=~2m, 1550:10 d=~2m, 1618:01 d=~2m 1645:32 – jet of steam till 1649:28 Duration – 3m56sec Interval from last steam – 2h37m09s 1649:34 – major began 1659 major ended approx 10 min duration, interval 31m32s Start: 1719:17 end 1721 – d= approx 2min.
31081 20 May 1983 @ 1200 --- research-mab May 20 1983 - no time noted - Disturbance!... The new geyser in Porcelain Terrace Springs is dry and steaming moderately. The steam is coming out in irregular pulses, as if the irregular splashy eruptions are still going on at depth.
7675 10 Mar 1983 @ 1515 --- research-mab 03/10/1983 The area was left for a brief period between eruptions c and d, a minor eruption may have occurred during that time.
7674 10 Mar 1983 @ 1430 --- research-mab 3-10-83 Activity of new geyser outbreak which broke out early in the week of 2-06-83 is irregular with less (est 50-60%) discharge. In late February (2/25?) Snow Coach Driver & summer Mammoth seasonal naturalist Arden B reported durations of 68 & 75 seconds, less discharge & lower heights of play. Today’s activity is as follows: Time Duration Interval
7667 05 Mar 1983 @ 1100 05 Mar 1983 @ 1140 research-mab 03/05/1983 Incline ~ *Max height ~3 meters
4666 19 Feb 1983 @ 1100 --- research-mab 2/19/1983 (Discovered Feb 12 by Fred Hirschmann) Rick Hutchinson and I (Cheryl B) quickly came to see the new addition. At the time of the discovery it was erupting every 20-29 minutes (average of 24 minutes) & about 20 feet high. The amount of discharge was estimated at 3-4 gallons per second. It was like a wave on the beach. The discharge flows into a large depression that is ~2 yrs old right at the base of the hill. Fine new addition to the geysers there in Porc. A week later I was checking the new geyser & the changes were very noticeable. The interval had shortened & the crater more than doubled in size. Previously it was ~2’ in diameter but now it was crescent shaped & about 6-7’ long. The “dark part of the moon” was undermined & falling in. The area doesn’t look very stable at all.
31295 07 Jul 1982 @ 1200 --- research-mab 7/7/1982 - no time noted -.Wildly pulsing sinter at base of Porcelain hill has quieted considerably- water supporting the sinter has disappeared.{Incline area precursor mab}
31282 06 Jul 1982 @ 1600 --- research-mab July 6 - approx time - The CHANGE in features occurred between 1230 and 1345 – for both basins - Porcelain Springs Terrace – one spring has developed a black runoff which blackened a pool. The area of the pulsing earth seems to have greatly increased steam activity. {poss. Blowout Incline area mab}
31275 04 Jul 1982 @ 1200 --- research-mab 4th of July 1982 - no time noted - {poss. Blowout Incline area mab}- A large portion of the sinter sheet (approx. 20 feet square) is pulsing wildly just below Porcelain Terrace Hill (eastern third). -CAUTION- Do Not Walk in that Area!
31489 08 Aug 1981 @ 1200 --- research-mab Aug 8 1981 - no time noted - Porcelain Spring Terrace area is continuing to change. At the south east side is a slump area. This appeared a few days ago, along with a noisy steam vent first observed Aug 5. Now the whole southern part near the bank is underwater. Previously there were isolated pools. This area is extremely unstable. ....I attempted to get to the new steam vent to take its temperature- but turned back when the geyserite moved under our feet – a sinking feeling {Added here as possible precursor to Blowout-Incline area AND example of the good stuff found in logbooks not in GT. mab}
31803 22 Sep 1980 @ 1200 --- research-mab Monday Sept 22, 1980 - no time noted - One week following the disturbance, some porcelain basin observations - {general area Incline} - Porcelain Terrace Springs – East vents mostly dry, those which are active have fairly clear water. West vents active with dark gray water. The area of sinter on the slope in the western have where Bob Fornier removed disturbance water samples is pulsing. Feels like small earthquakes and not nearly as strong as the Carnegie Drill Site
31768 16 Sep 1980 @ 1200 --- research-mab Tuesday September 16, 1980 - no time noted - {incline area} Many of the vents on the east side of Porcelain Terrace Springs have become dry. Active vents are discharging gray water. During the afternoon I assisted Bob Fournier in taking water samples from Blue & Porcelain Terrace Springs Since the Disturbance, Norris has been crawling with Geologists.
